A conversation about the design of LALABE

We are pleased to share two exclusive interviews from the Cannes Yachting Festival exploring the 35-meter MY LALABE. In the first video, designers Guido de Groot and Paulo Calado discuss their garden-inspired design philosophy and LALABE's exceptional outdoor living spaces. In the second, naval architects Hans Maarten Bais and Jaron Ginton reveal the collaborative technical expertise behind this sophisticated yacht.

Garden-Inspired Luxury: The Design Vision Behind 35m MY LALABE

In this exclusive interview, recorded during the Cannes Yachting Festival, designers Guido de Groot and Paulo Calado of Guido de Groot Design join Ralph Dazert of SuperyachtTimes aboard the stunning 35-meter MY LALABE to discuss their vision for this uniquely elegant yacht. Speaking from LALABE’s sophisticated salon, the design team reveals how they drew inspiration from the concept that every memorable home needs a beautiful garden— a philosophy that shaped their approach to creating LALABE’s exceptional outdoor living spaces. This design thinking is beautifully realized throughout the yacht, where wonderful outdoor leisure areas complement an extraordinary floating residence.

Form Meets Function: Naval Architects Discuss LALABE’s Technical Innovation

In this exclusive interview, naval architects Hans Maarten Bais and Jaron Ginton join Ralph Dazert of SuperyachtTimes to explore the sophisticated naval architecture behind MY LALABE. The 35-meter yacht’s design emerged from a collaborative effort between Ginton Naval Architects, who developed the hull shape, shaft line, appendage placement and weight calculations, and Diana Yacht Design, who handled the structural engineering and strength analysis.

Conceived as a fast-displacement yacht, LALABE presented unique architectural challenges, including accommodating a voluminous 299 GT interior positioned forward to create the expansive open aft decks the owner desired, while incorporating large glass hull windows in the lower deck guest suites. The team drew on previous hull design experience to create an optimized solution that delivers a top speed approaching 17 knots while maintaining the seaworthiness and efficiency required for confident transatlantic passages, all within a lightweight yet strong aluminum structure with precisely balanced weight distribution and center of gravity.

The Rhythm of life

Everything from the waterline up on the all-aluminium tri-deck superyacht LALABE has been custom-designed by Guido de Groot. A rich focus on outdoor leisure spaces, including a large swimming platform, is incorporated within an elegant explorer-like look. Safety is at a premium in this multi-generation family yacht with high bulwarks on the side decks, and smart colour separations instead of open railings. The rhythmic lines, complex surfaces and sculptural elements will be as relaxing to the eye as the lifestyle onboard.
