Sister Act

Just as in life, yacht family get-togethers don’t happen all that often, but in mid-July we were treated to sight of two spectacular new Van der Valk yachts cruising in company in the North Sea. Sisters via common ancestry with the award-winning, innovative 34-metre tri-deck explorer Lady Lene, both the 35-metre Lalabe and 34-metre ONE highlight the custom-building ethos that lies at the core of the Van der Valk shipyard.

Moreover, just as LALABE was headed to her new owners, and ONE is offered for sale – representing an exceedingly rare opportunity to jump the queue and take swift delivery of a Dutch masterpiece in time for some serious summer cruising.

While both yachts share common DNA with Lady Lene, whose proven hull and core engineering provided the base for both LALABE and ONE, each yacht has been tailored to the requirements of her owner and each is fully custom from the waterline up. Guido de Groot worked on the exquisite exterior designs for both yachts, with each displaying a unique profile and space layout but with both offering hints of shared provenance through subtle style cues.

LALABE’s rhythm of life

LALABE, which was on her way to the Mediterranean to begin her maiden season with her owner, features a hull specifically optimised for fast displacement cruising at speeds up to 17 knots. Designed to meet the brief for a multi-generational family, she boasts land-based residential concepts ported to a nautical environment to create the ultimate waterside living and cruising experience. Her expansive aft cockpit and beach area is reminiscent of an inviting garden terrace, augmented by relaxed sofas, alfresco dining, a chilled beach zone, and even a sauna and steam room.

Her interior was also developed by Guido de Groot, in close collaboration with her highly experienced owners, with a style that reflects the joyous rhythm of life – no surprise then she was built under the project name Samba. The result is a stunning seaborne sanctuary that confers the essence of a relaxed beachfront home, with a warm palette of creams and light browns alongside beautiful woods and curved, comfy furniture.

She is a truly stunning addition to the superyacht fleet – but don’t take our word for it though, as you will be able to discover her charms for yourself at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival in September. She will be on display in the Vieux Port, making her global show debut, and the Van der Valk team will also be available at stands NR SYE 137 and SYE 025.

ONE vision

Superyacht ONE combines Guido de Groot’s exterior lines with interior design by Carla Guilhem, who has created a contemporary style based on a white and pale cream base palette with pops of colour and dark wood contrasts. Large expanses of glass and cutaway bulwarks on the main deck reinforce an inside-outside feel, and her forward cockpit coupled to her inviting sundeck further adds to her flexible social areas. With guest areas spread across four decks of first-class entertainment facilities, all beautifully realised by Van der Valk’s inhouse team of craftsmen, she represents the epitome of modern luxury cruising realised by traditional artisanal building.

[AVAILABLE FOR SALE]

Her full-displacement hull, powered by twin Volvo Penta engines, deliver a top speed of 14.4 knots and she offers everything you could need to create exceptional memories on the water – there’s a fold-out platform aft that creates the ideal waterside relaxation area, coupled to the potential for an extensive toy chest thanks to a large lazarette. Her volumes are prodigious for her compact size, signifying a design that screams entertaining for large groups of people in style.

ONE is not just a pipedream but a reality and, having completed her sea trials in the North Sea, she is available for purchase with a quick delivery time.
